(Ranjish hi sahi) – By Ahmed Faraz, Sung By Runa Laila

with 47 comments

मरासिम=agreements/relationships, रस्म-ओ-रह-ए-दुनिया=customs and traditions of the society

सबब=reason, ख़फ़ा=angry

लज़्ज़त-ए-गिरिया=taste of sadness/tears, महरूम=devoid of, राहत-ए-जाँ=peace of life

That’s great poetry ! Magnificient expression of melancholy ! And Runa Laila’s silken voice just weaves magic…This was also sung by Mehdi Hasan but was immortalized by Runa Laila.

  6. @JT

Those shers are not written by Ahmed Faraz. Those were written later by Talib Baghpati. Mehdi Hasan always sings them. So may be Runa Laila didnt sing the same.

  8. Words form a beautiful stream in this piece. Wonderfully sung by Runa Lila, but my heart goes to Mehndi Hassan who made this piece immensely popular…Best wishes to all of you behind the scene…

  9. sir,
Appreciate the effort you have taken to spread the meaning of such lovely poetry and thank you sincerely for the same.
At the same time i would like to tell you that its most definatly mehdi saab who has immortalized it and not Runa Laila due respect to her though.
    Thank you once again.

The above two ashaar are by Talib Baghpati and not Faraaz, but Mehdi Hassan always sings them as part of this Gazal.

  31. maana ke tumhe pine ki aadat nahi wise
maikhane ki rounak hi badhane ke liye aa

dear all, ther are 30 stanzas in this gazal. please search for them and post here.
below are the 10 of them

ranjish hi sahi dil hi dukhane ke liye aa
aa phir se mujhe chod ke jaane ke liye aa

pehle se marasim na sahi phir bhi kabhi to

tu mujh se kafa hai to zamane ke liye aa

kuch to mere pindaar-e-muhabbat ka bharam rakh
tu bhi kabhi mujh ko manane ke liye aa

ek umr se hoon lazzat-e-giriya se bhi mehroom
aye raahat-e-jaan mujh ko rulaane ke liye aa

ye aakhri shamme bhi bhujaane ke liye aa

maana ki muhabbat ka chupaana hai muhabbat
chupke se kisi roz jataane ke liye aa

jaise tujhe aate hain na aane ke bahaane
aise hi kisi roz na jaane ke liye aa

dil sardiye mahol se ghbrane lgaa hai,
ik aag si ragh ragh me lgaane ke liye aa.’

maana ke tumhe pine ki aadat nahi wise
maikhane ki rounak hi badhane ke liye aa

  33. Mehdi Hassan saab the greatest of all the gazal singers. No doubt Zafar, Zauk,Faiz ,Ghalib had written their work only for Mehdi Saab.IF Ahmad Faraz even had stopped writting, Ranjish hi sahi was capable of giving him fame &love from public.

Thank you so much for the text of the some of the stanzas not know to all, but this is an undisputed fact that the original version of the Gazal by Great Maestro Mehdi hassan saab simply cannot be matched by anyone else who have attempted the same later on to their best because there can be other tall summits but there is only one Mount Everest in the world!!!
