(Ranjish hi sahi) – By Ahmed Faraz, Sung By Runa Laila
मरासिम=agreements/relationships, रस्म-ओ-रह-ए-दुनिया=customs and traditions of the society
सबब=reason, ख़फ़ा=angry
लज़्ज़त-ए-गिरिया=taste of sadness/tears, महरूम=devoid of, राहत-ए-जाँ=peace of life
That’s great poetry ! Magnificient expression of melancholy ! And Runa Laila’s silken voice just weaves magic…This was also sung by Mehdi Hasan but was immortalized by Runa Laila.

Too good! Nice to have lyrics and meaning of some peculiar words of my favourite ghazal. Thanks.

Beg to differ… Runa Laila’s rendering is immemorable, but Ranjish Hi was immortalized by Mehdi Hasan.

some shers (stanza) are missing … here are two that I know …
“Jaise tumhe aate hain na aane ke bahane
waise hi kisi roj na jane ke liye aa”!
“Mana ki muhobbat ka chupana hain muhabbat
chupke se kisi roj jatane ke liye aa” !
Thanks..

@JT
Those shers are not written by Ahmed Faraz. Those were written later by Talib Baghpati. Mehdi Hasan always sings them. So may be Runa Laila didnt sing the same.

Words form a beautiful stream in this piece. Wonderfully sung by Runa Lila, but my heart goes to Mehndi Hassan who made this piece immensely popular…Best wishes to all of you behind the scene…

sir,
Appreciate the effort you have taken to spread the meaning of such lovely poetry and thank you sincerely for the same.
At the same time i would like to tell you that its most definatly mehdi saab who has immortalized it and not Runa Laila due respect to her though.
Thank you once again.

The above two ashaar are by Talib Baghpati and not Faraaz, but Mehdi Hassan always sings them as part of this Gazal.

one of the most beautiful Gazal I have ever heard… also listen to the version sung by Padmaja Phenani Jogalekar, only the live version from a mehfil is available and her voice is very nice.. lot better than even Lata Mangeshkarji… wonderful.

dose any one know who wrote this one?

Pls dont say that Raina Lula immortalised this Ghazal.. It was indeed Ustad Mehdi Hassan sahab who should be credited for it..

very correct stanzas given by you! I too would like to say, Mehdi Hassan is Mehdi Hassan. Absolutely no comparison with anybody on the planet! Just listen to this ghazal sung by any singer and then listen to Mehdi saab, and you will notice the difference.

Recently I got the news that Mehndi Hasan Sahab is not well.
I pray to GOD for his good health. GET WELL SOON.
His voice is outstanding. And one of his live concert in Albert Hall at London is immortal.
